The guidelines I follow as a doctor

Which guidelines do I follow?

Dermatologists and GPs in UK follow NICE guidelines on various skin topics. Dermatologists do also allow “off label” prescribing, when research shows this is safe. Other guidelines may also apply, such as specific European guidelines more recent than NICE.

Consensus often emerges on how best to manage long term skin conditions, as some skin conditions are quite complex, and a group of dermatologists may come to agree on policy.

In my own appraisal from a network of doctors, paramedics, physician assistants and nurses, it has been noted that I sometimes follow a European guideline where off label prescribing is explicit.

My aim is always to get the best outcome for patients, and where I am not able to do so with the compounded cream approach, to refer on for specialist treatment. My experience using compounded or blended creams is that superior results may be achieved.
